A biocentric hiking experience that transforms your acoustic presence into a measurable ecological contribution. Walk silently. Disturb nothing. Leave only your breath. Join the pack of over 165,000 users. Become a Wolf Hiker. Walk quieter. Leave less trace.
Trailerfade is built on the biocentric ecological research of Prof. Erik Geslin and grounded in acoustic ecology, the science of how sound shapes healthy ecosystems. Every feature of the app exists to serve one purpose: reduce human acoustic intrusion into the living world.
We don't just track hikes. We measure the silence you create, and reward those who disturb the least.
We place life at the center. Every step honors the more-than-human world.
Minimal. Mindful. Meaningful. Tech that fades so nature can speak.
A global community of listeners walking gently, together.
Reconnecting ourselves to ecosystems. One trail at a time.
Six pillars of acoustic ecology, gamified into a measurable challenge.
Real-time sound environment mapping powered by the V8 PCM engine.
Natural wind covers human sound. The app detects and rewards this natural advantage.
Bird song is a living signal of ecosystem health. Pass through zones without silencing them.
0–100. A live measure of how acoustically invisible you are during your hike.
Earn ecological credits for responsible behavior. A currency of silence.
Every trail becomes a data point in the global map of acoustic ecology.
of wildlife behavioral disruption is caused by human acoustic intrusion during daytime
average flight distance of forest birds triggered by human footstep noise on loose surfaces
reduction in ambient noise pressure is measurable and ecologically significant for sensitive species
"The acoustic environment is not merely background. It is the medium through which ecosystems communicate, reproduce, and maintain cohesion. Human intrusion into this medium is one of the most underestimated ecological threats of our time."

An ecological framework that places all life, not human convenience, at the center of design.
Biocentrism is the ethical position that all living organisms possess intrinsic value, independent of their usefulness to human beings. It challenges the dominant anthropocentric worldview in which humans are considered the most important entity in the universe, and all other life exists as a resource or backdrop for human activity.
In a biocentric framework, the forest does not exist for your hiking pleasure. The birds do not sing for your enjoyment. The silence of a woodland morning is not ambiance, it is a living language, a biological communication network that evolved over millions of years.
When you enter that forest, you enter a system that was functioning perfectly before your arrival — and will function better the less you disturb it.
Professor Erik Geslin, PhD
Interactive Media Researcher
& Simulation Designer
Noroff University College, Norway
The study of natural soundscapes as ecosystems in themselves. Acoustic ecology understands that biodiversity is auditory, a silent forest is not peaceful, it is injured. Healthy ecosystems are acoustically rich and complex.
Each time a hiker triggers a flight response in a bird, energy is wasted. Nesting birds abandon eggs. Communication between animals breaks down. These micro-disruptions, multiplied across millions of hikes per year, constitute measurable ecological damage.
Animals use sound to communicate danger, territory, mating availability, food sources, and social bonding. Human noise at similar frequencies — footsteps, voices, gear — directly interferes with these signals.
Being "in nature" is not a right. It is a privilege that must be exercised with awareness. Respectful presence means minimizing your acoustic footprint in the same way Leave No Trace minimizes your physical one.
Trailerfade turns ecological discipline into a game. By rewarding silence, it creates behavioral change through intrinsic motivation rather than guilt. When silence becomes a score, hikers actively pursue it.
Trailerfade is grounded in the biocentric and non-anthropocentric design framework developed by Prof. Erik Geslin, whose research establishes the measurable relationship between human behavior and wildlife ecosystem health.
About Erik Geslin
The forest is not waiting for you.
It is watching you.
Walk softly.
Listen deeply.
Leave no trace,
but bring presence.
You are not a visitor.
You are part of the living web.
From first footstep to final score — a complete overview of the acoustic invisibility system.
Open Trailerfade and begin a new hike session. The app activates GPS tracking and the V8 PCM acoustic engine simultaneously. Your route recording begins and a live acoustic baseline is established for your environment.
The V8 Pulse Code Modulation engine continuously samples the ambient soundscape, detecting frequencies associated with human activity. Footstep impact, voice, gear rattle, and fabric swish are all identified and measured against the natural sound background.
Wind is your ecological ally. When ambient wind covers human-frequency noise, Trailerfade detects this natural masking effect and reduces your acoustic footprint score accordingly. Wind events are marked as blue circles on your route map.
When the acoustic engine detects active bird activity, it creates an awareness zone on your map. Passing through these zones silently earns bonus ecological credits. Disturbing them triggers a penalty. Your challenge is to coexist.
Your Invisibility Score is a live 0–100 measure of how acoustically transparent you are during a hike. It updates in real-time and integrates footstep noise, voice, gear sound, wind masking, and bird disruption into a single ecological metric.
Trail Points are earned through silent behavior, long hikes, bird zone traversal, and community contributions. They represent your cumulative ecological contribution — a currency of silence that can be spent in the Trailerfade ecosystem.

Equipment specifically evaluated for minimum acoustic impact in natural environments.
Products bearing the Trailerfade Silent Certification have been evaluated for acoustic footprint across material noise analysis, field observation, and comparative testing. Our goal is to help every hiker choose equipment that reduces their acoustic presence in the living world.
If you manufacture outdoor equipment designed for minimal acoustic impact, we want to evaluate and potentially certify your products. Brand partnerships and certified program applications are opening soon.
